Common questions about ada & handicap stalls
- How many accessible stalls does my lot need?
- One for lots up to 25 spaces, two for 26 to 50, three for 51 to 75, four for 76 to 100, and the count keeps climbing from there. At least one of every six accessible stalls must be van accessible. Read our ADA parking guide for the full table.
- Are Connecticut's rules different from the federal ADA?
- Yes. Connecticut requires accessible car spaces to be 15 feet wide including a 5 foot cross-hatched aisle, and van spaces 16 feet wide including an 8 foot aisle. That is wider than the federal minimum, and it is what inspectors here look for.
- Can you fix stalls that failed an inspection?
- That is a common call. Send us the inspector's notes and we will re-lay the stalls, aisles and symbols to the current standard. We can usually do it in the same visit as a re-stripe.
